ERIE – Chartiers-Houston rallied from a three-run deficit and grabbed a 7-3 victory over Union City in the first round of the PIAA Class AA softball playoffs Monday at Penn State-Behrend.

Union City scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings before Chartiers-Houston rallied by scoring five runs in the fifth inning and two more in the top of the seventh.

The Bucs opened the fifth inning when Jaylese Lombardi got on on an error. Ella Brookman singled before Bella Hess loaded the bases with a bunt that was meant to sacrifice the runners over but instead turned into a hit.

Kaci Alderson singled in two runs.

Nicolette Kloes’ grounder produced another run. Kasey Scears then hit a two-run single with two outs in the inning to make it 5-3.

In the seventh-inning, Lauren Lober singled in a run and Scears brought in another with a sacrifice fly.

The Bucs moved their record to 18-4 and will take on Frazier Thursday at a site and time to be determined. The two teams have met nine times over the last three years.
