Five people were injured at the U.S. Open when one of several boxes being loaded onto a golf cart fell onto the accelerator and sent the cart into spectators.
The California Highway Patrol says a vendor parked the cart near the 16th hole Friday at Pebble Beach and was walking away when a box fell onto the gas pedal, moving it forward. It struck four spectators and the vendor before it was brought under control.
The Monterey Herald said two victims were taken by ambulance to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
- Washington native Steve Wheatcroft moved into contention in the Lincoln Land Charity Championship on the Web.com Tour. Wheatcroft shot 6-under 65 and was tied for 7th place with much of the field on the course at presstime for the third round.
- Waynesburg’s Rachel Rohanna shot a 4-over 76 and was tied for 68th place after the second round of the Forsyth Classic on the Symetra Tour. She is in danger of missing the cut at 1-over par.
At The Meadows
“The Hoosier Hotshot” Binkley pulled the pocket with Body Of Work midway down the backside and rolled to a 10-½-length rout in Saturday’s $10,000 leg of the C.K.G. Billings Amateur Trot at The Meadows.
Binkley was stalking Michelle “The Belle” Ruvola (Jackie Goldstein) when a pair of circumstances convinced her it was time to move.
The rest of the field took chase, but the “Hotshot'” was not to be caught, scoring in 1:56.3. “Tiny Tim” Miller (Song In My Heart) rallied for second, while “Fast Greggy” Keidel (Stirling Boudica) and Ruvola completed the superfecta.
