Co-Team of the Year – Chartiers Valley girls basketball
The girls basketball season was beyond Chartiers Valley’s wildest dreams. By virtue of their 53-40 victory over Archbishop Carroll at the Giant Center in Hershey, the Colts won the first state title in program history. “At the beginning of the season, I can’t say that I could imagine that we would go undefeated and be state champions,” said the Colts’ standout forward MacKenzie Wagner, “but I knew that we would be really good.” Chartiers Valley was more than good. The Colts were perfect, finishing the season with a 30-0 record. Wagner and point guard Megan McConnell, both 1,000-point scorers, were the driving forces behind CV’s banner season, which included a 64-48 win over Thomas Jefferson in the WPIAL Class 5A title game. In the final game of her scholastic career before she heads off to play at Loyola, Wagner scored a game-high 24 points in the state final. Wagner led CV in scoring at 16 points per game. McConnell averaged 10.9 points and 4.3 assists. The Colts went 8-0 in the postseason, winning five games by double digits.
