Football MVP – Christian Clutter
It didn’t matter how much opponents schemed to stop Christian Clutter. The McGuffey senior running back made sure all those efforts were unsuccessful. In a breakout final year with the Highlanders, Clutter finished with 1,548 rushing yards and 28 rushing touchdowns out of McGuffey’s flex offense. He scored an amazing 42 touchdowns on the season, which neared the WPIAL scoring record held by Armstrong’s Zane Dudek. A Seton Hill recruit, Clutter scored in five different ways: rushing, receiving, twice on defense, a punt return and kick return. Clutter scored 23 of McGuffey’s final 27 touchdowns, carrying the Highlanders on his back to the WPIAL Class 2A playoffs. He did it against top competition, scoring 22 times against the five opponents McGuffey played that qualified for the playoffs. His best performance was in a first-round playoff loss to South Side Beaver as he ran for 266 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Clutter finished with 45 tackles and five stops behind the line of scrimmage from his safety position.
