Girls Cross Country MVP – Emily Carter
Hill is a four-letter word found in Emily Carter’s vocabulary. “Everybody says they hate hills but I tell myself that I love hills, especially while I’m going up them,” she said. That approach proves the difference between Carter and the rest of the pack during a cross country race. The Bethel Park sophomore usually found herself alone at a crest and near the top of the heap as runners raced to the finish line. During the fall, Carter finished third in the WPIAL with a personal record of 19:03.20, placed 11th at the PIAA Championships and secured second during the Junior Olympics National Cross Country Championships held in Reno, Nev. In the winter, she won both the mile and 3,000-meter events in the Tri-State then went on to place fourth and second in those respective races at states.
