Caroline McConnell was a model of consistency for South Fayette High School’s girls golf team. The talented freshman played her best golf when it mattered most, finishing tied for third in the WPIAL Championships, second in the West Region and fourth in the PIAA Championships. At the state event at Heritage Hills Country Club in York, the cool, calm and collected McConnell shot 7-over 79 in the second round and finished the two-day event at 157, which was 10 shots behind state champion Caroline Wrigley of North Allegheny. In the PIAA Class AAA West Regional at Tom’s Run Golf Course, McConnell got the first hole-in-one of her career when she landed a 9-iron on the 118-yard, par-3 eighth hole and watched as it rolled into the cup. That helped her to a 2-over 74 and second place. McConnell shot a 5-over-par 77 and tied for third place during the WPIAL Class AAA girls’ golf championships at the Diamond Run Golf Club in Sewickley.
