Selena Phillips has been spot on at the WPIAL Rifle Championships, which has brought out the best in Waynesburg’s sharp-shooting senior. Phillips successfully defended her WPIAL title at the Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club in March. Just as she was a year ago, when she won Waynesburg’s first WPIAL gold medal in the sport and shot a perfect score of 200-20x, Phillips was a model of consistency. As the defending champion, she shot 106.4 in both relays for a winning total of 212.8, which edged runner-up Alayna Walther of Avella by only .3. Phillips and Walther were two of seven local shooters to finish in the top 10 at the WPIAL meet. Phillips will attend Morehead State University to major in petroleum engineering
