Pirates, Orioles fit to be tied
SARASOTA, Fla. – Trevor Williams and Nick Kingham combined for six shutout innings, and Jung Ho Kang hit a first-inning home run as the Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles played to a 1-1 tie Sunday.
It was the final exhibition game in Florida for Pittsburgh before the start of the regular season Thursday at Cincinnati. The Pirates will play exhibition games tonight and Tuesday at Houston before going on to Cincinnati.
Kang gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead with solo homer in the first inning off Baltimore starter Andrew Cashner. It was Kang’s seventh homer of the spring.
Williams started and threw three shutout innings. He allowed three hits and did not walk a batter.
Kingham followed and allowed one hit over his three scoreless innings.
Baltimore tied the score at 1-1 with a run in the eighth against reliever Steven Brault. Chance Sisco doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Zach Vincej.
The Pirates had nine hits, including doubles by Josh Bell and Pablo Reyes, but left eight runners on base.
