Strong start for Rohanna in Symetra tournament
BEAUMONT, Calif. – Rachel Rohanna of Waynesburg shot an opening-round 69 Friday and was tied for eighth place at press time in the Symetra Tour’s IOA Championship at the Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon.
Rohanna trails leader August Kim by three shots.
Rohanna played in one of the first groups to start the day – at 7:20 a.m. – and her three-under par round had her the clubhouse leader well into the afternoon, when scores were generally lower.
Rohanna’s round, which started on the back nine, included only one birdie, on the par-5 No. 11. However, an eagle on the par-5 No. 16 enabled her to move up the leaderboard. Rohanna was a model of consistency on the front nine as she strung together one par after another for an even-par 36.
This is only the second Symetra Tour event Rohanna has played in this season.
A two-time winner, Rohanna is 51st on the tour’s money list.
