Boys soccer

Ryan Ross had his third shutout in four matches as Beth-Center blanked Yough, 2-0, in Section 3-AA.

Todd Fisher scored in the middle of the first half to give Beth-Center (2-0, 3-1) a 1-0 lead. Zach Ankney added a goal in the second half to secure the victory.

Yough falls to 0-2 in the section and overall.

n Bentworth fell to Bishop Canevin, 3-1, in a Section 4-A match. Bentworth’s lone goal scored by Brian Hustava on an assist from Josh Ambrose.

Bentworth is 2-2 overall, 1-1 in the section.

n Jimmy Lallier and Derek Keyes scored for California as the Trojans defeated Aquinas Academy, 2-1 in a non-section match.

California improved to 2-2 overall.

Aquinas Academy fell to 0-2.

n Belle Vernon raced out to a quick lead before halftime and cruised to a 10-1 victory over Uniontown in Section 3-AAA.

The Leopards scored two goals in the opening 70 seconds. Daniel Sassak scored four goals and Niko Apodiakos added a pair of markers for Belle Vernon (2-0, 4-0).

Sassak has 10 goals this season.

n Aiden Belcastro had a hat trick to lead Trinity over Laurel Highlands, 4-0, in Section 3-AAA.

Elijah Cincinnati added a goal in the first half for Trinity (1-1). Colby Thomas made nine saves for the shutout.

Laurel Highlands falls to 1-1 in the section and 2-2 overall.

n Elizabeth Forward defeated McGuffey, 4-0, in Section 1-AA. No other game information or details were provided.

Girls soccer

Three first-half goals for South Side Beaver led to a 3-1 victory over Chartiers-Houston in a non-section match.

Emily Bailey scored all three goals for South Side (1-1).

Lexi Durkacs had a tally in the second half for C-H (2-2).

n Haley Longwell broke a scoreless tie in the second half to lift Moon over Canon-McMillan, 1-0, in a Section 2-AAAA match.

The loss drops C-M to 0-2 in the section and 1-2 overall.

Moon remains undefeated at 2-0 in section play and 3-0 overall.

n Jocelyn Timlin continued to add to her program-best goal count with four more as Bentworth downed Elizabeth Forward, 8-1, in a non-section match.

Paige Marshalek added a hat trick for the Bearcats (4-0). Tessa Carpentier also scored for Bentworth.

It was Elizabeth Forward’s first game of the season.

Field hockey

Gia Grau and Veronica Schratz each had a hat trick as Peters Township defeated Winchester Thurston, 7-1.

Cassidy King also scored for the Indians.

Aquatic coach hired

Todd Clark was hired as the South Fayette Aqua Club coach.

Clark, currently a member of the USA Swimming National Team staff has 30-plus years of coaching experience between collegiate, high school and national club levels.

He was a seven-time All-American at Kenyon College.
