Decision coming on Big 33 game

The Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association will make a decision by April 15 on the status of the Big 33 Football Classic and East-West Game, scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.

Garry Cathell, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association, said in a release:

“With the volatile and unpredictable nature of this pandemic, we find ourselves facing necessary daily and weekly adjustments to our lifestyles and public events, as you know, in order to protect our health and safety. All of this could ultimately impact our Memorial Day weekend plans. We will continue to closely monitor this important situation and all of the ongoing safeguards being put into place. We hope to make a final decision by April 15, 2020. Once we have made a final decision, we will notify all the appropriate entities involved should cancellation of our Memorial Day weekend festivities become necessary. We will provide more information as it becomes available to us. Please also follow updates on our social media and website at www.Big33.org and www.PSFCA.net.

Jazwinski to return to W&J

The Washington & Jefferson football program has announced the addition of a familiar face to its coaching staff. Bob Jazwinski, a 2004 W&J graduate, returns as a full-time assistant football coach.

“Bob knows what it means to be a President,” said head coach Mike Sirianni. “He has a ton of experience and I’m excited to have him back as part of our football family. As a player, he was coached by Todd Young so that is an enormous plus.”

Jazwinski spent the past 11 football seasons coaching at fellow NCAA Division III member Dickinson College. Jazwinski performed a wide variety of tasks during his time with the Red Devils.

He assisted with recruiting, coached on both sides of the ball, and he worked with the offensive and defensive lines. He also coordinated the special teams units with the Red Devils. In addition to his football duties, Jazwinski served the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator for all varsity teams at Dickinson.

Coach Jazwinski has also had coaching stops at Division I Bryant University (Feb. 2011 through June 2011) and Division III Susquehanna University (July 2006 through May 2009).

Jazwinski received a bachelor of arts degree in Business Administration from W&J in 2004. During his playing career at W&J, Jazwinski earned First-team All-Presidents Athletic Conference honors, All-South Region and All-ECAC honors in 2002 and 2003. He was also named the W&J Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2002 and 2003, and selected to play in the Aztec Bowl.

London MLB series off

Major League Baseball has canceled a two-game series in London between the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The teams had been scheduled to play at Olympic Stadium on June 13-14.

Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred made the announcement in a memorandum sent to MLB employees on Wednesday. MLB said March 19 that it had scrapped series in Mexico City and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“We made the decision because it was unlikely the events would go forward, and timely cancellation allowed us to preserve important financial resources,” Manfred wrote. “We also have canceled agreements with service providers and delayed projects that involve large capital expenditures.”

MLB played in Europe for the first time last June 29-30, when the New York Yankees swept a pair of games from the Boston Red Sox in London.
