C-M wrestlers fall to Erie Prep
Erie Cathedral Prep used a forfeit at heavyweight to seal a 34-27 victory over Canon-McMillan Saturday in the semifinals at the Virginia Duals.
Canon-Mac rallied in the consolation semifinals to take a 47-16 victory over Oscar Smith and can still finish as high as third place.
Against Erie Prep, Dorian Crosby won a 7-1 decision over Evan Miller at 220 to ice the victory over the big Macs.
Erie Cathedral Prep won seven of the last nine bouts to help seal the victory. Returning state champion Gerrit Nijenhuis won by forfeit at 195.
Costa Moore had a pin at 120 pounds and Jimmy Baxter had another at 132 pounds for the Big Macs. Tyler Rohaley pinned his opponent at 182.
Burgettstown tournament
Thomas Jefferson, behind three first-place finishes, won the team tournament title at the Burgettstown invitational Saturday.
Kal Buckiso at 138 pounds, Brenden Finnerty at 160 and Brian Finnerty at 170 each won gold medals for Thomas Jefferson, which finished with 211.5 points. Chartiers Valley was second at 190 and McGuffey took third with 171.5.
Local winners included Julian Moore of Fort Cherry at 113, Rocco Ferraro of McGuffey at 145 and Riley Kemper of Burgettstown at heavyweight.
