Players honored
Freshman Tyler Horvat was honored as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week following his performance in W&J’s 8-0 win over No. 6 Washington (Mo.) last Tuesday.
Horvat threw eight shutout innings, allowing five hits and posting four strikeouts.
He initiated a 1-4-3 double play to escape the fifth and worked out of two other jams with multiple runners on base in the second and sixth innings. The President bats banged out 13 hits and scored all eight runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to secure the ranked win.
- Junior Sofiya Bobrovnikova and freshman Sarah Labovitz each collected weekly accolades from the Presidents’ Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon.
Bobrovnikova was tabbed as the defensive player of the week after winning offensive player of the week on Mar. 2. Labovitz earned her third PAC Rookie of the Week nod. The Presidents traveled to Florida for spring break and posted a 1-1 week with a loss to Marywood and a victory over Hiram.
Bobrovnikova set a career-high with a dozen draw controls in W&J’s victory over Hiram. Her 12 DCs ranked tied for second-most in the PAC in 2020. She added four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Above the restraining line, she scored four goals and dished two assists in W&J’s 19-3 win over the Terriers. Against Marywood, Bobvonikova notched four draw controls.
Labovitz continued her outstanding debut season with four points against both Marywood and Hiram. She had three goals and one assist against Marywood and two goals and two assists against Hiram. She totaled nine draw controls and eight ground balls over the two contests as well.
- For the second time in three weeks, Washington & Jefferson College freshman Peyton Eckenrode was recognized as the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Softball Rookie of the Week.
Eckenrode compiled a .421 batting average (8-for-19) last week during the Presidents stay at the PFX Spring Games. The freshman compiled a .394 batting average with three runs, three RBI and three extra base hits. Eckenrode had four multi-hit games last week. She slugged her first collegiate home run in the finale against Becker College on Thursday.
Eckenrode previously earned PAC Rookie of the Week honors on March 2. She leads the team in OPS (1.127), extra base hits (6), doubles (5) and total bases (23) while ranking second in runs (9), hits (14) and batting average (.417).
