Field hockey MVP: Nica Schratz, Peters Township
Nica Schratz represents the end of an era as she is the third and last sister to propel Peters Township to great heights in field hockey.
In captaining the Indians to back-to-back WPIAL championship appearances, Schratz set a school record by scoring 78 career goals. She finished with 30 assists. The Indians won the district title in 2018 and finished runner-up last fall, dropping a 2-0 decision to Pine-Richland in the Class AAA final at Fox Chapel High School. The Indians finished 14-3-2 overall.
During the 2019 campaign, which featured a PIAA playoff berth, Schratz racked up a team-high 21 goals supplemented with three assists. The St. Francis University recruit earned All-WPIAL first-team honors for the third year in a row.
“Nica is a well-rounded athlete and she hustles,” said PT head coach Melanie Cocco. “She was more than just a leader in numbers. She led the energy of the team. She loves the sport and she brought that passion to the field and team. That is the reason why we were so great.”
