Washington-Greene Hall of Fame changes induction banquet date
The Washington-Greene Co. Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame has moved its 2021 induction banquet to Sunday, Sept. 26, 3 p.m., at the Hilton Garden Inn in Southpointe.
The banquet was moved from its original date of June 13 because of concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision to move the banquet was made after consultation with the hotel and a meeting of the hall of fame’s officers and committee chairs. The hope is to be able allow for more attendees on the new date.
The Class of 2021 includes:
- Patrick Aigner (football); Dr. Anthony Canterna (youth service); Curtis Ellis (wrestling); Justin Evans (Athlete of Distinction, soccer); Justin Gregula (baseball and football); Howard Hackley (football); Mark Kern (football); Joe Maize (baseball); Jonathan Miles (football); Mary Mosley (basketball and volleyball); Wade Timmerson (basketball); Jon Vallina (coach and athletic director) and Frank Zebrasky (football and baseball).
The 1998 Washington High School baseball team will be inducted as the Team of Yesteryear.
Special Honorees are: George Alvin (Al) Helfer (broadcaster); Harry Harvey (harness racing trainer, driver and farm manager); and the 1958 California State Teachers College football.
Award Honorees will be: Courage Award to James C. (Jimmy) Montecalvo and Luke Blanock; Hall of Fame Moment to P.J. Hughes and Joe Gregula.
