Philip Alston, who led the California University men’s basketball team to the third round of the NCAA Division II tournament this year, will transfer to Loyola of Chicago.

Alston announced his intention to join the Ramblers on Twitter Saturday.

A 6-6 forward, Alston was Cal’s leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 21 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game this season as the Vulcans had a 23-10 record. He was second in Division II with 21 double-doubles and was a third-team All-American.

Loyola had a 25-8 record this season and won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament before losing to Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Pittsburgh.
