Cal connections are many for Super Bowl
California University has numerous connections to Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Kanas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.
Three current/former students from the university’s Exercise Science and Health Promotion masters program are working the Super Bowl this week. Kelly Weller is currently enrolled in our masters. She is a full year intern Athletic Trainer with the Chiefs. Tyler Judkins, a graduate of our program, is an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Chiefs. Joe O’Pella, a graduate of the program, is an Associate Athletic Trainer for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dr. Barry McGlumphy, program coordinator for Exercise Science, has deep connections with the Chiefs and Eagles. He started working training camps in the summer with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2005. His roommate from graduate school, Rick Burkholder, was the Head Athletic Trainer. Rick went with Coach Andy Reid to the Chiefs 10 years ago and is now the vice president for Sports Medicine & Performance with the Chiefs. Dr. McGlumphy has worked training camps and countless games with the Eagles for seven years and the Chiefs over the last 10 years.
