MELBOURNE – Though it lasted two days because of rain, McMurray native Alison Riske-Amritraj’s stay in the women’s single bracket at the Australian Open was only one round.

Riske-Amritraj lost her first-round match Wednesday to Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

The began Tuesday in Melbourne but was suspended because of rain in the first set with Riske-Amritraj leading 4-1. On Wednesday, the match resumed and Riske-Amritraj held on to win the first set.

Vondrousova dominated the second set, but Riske-Amritraj started well in the decisive third set, taking a 4-2 lead. That’s when Vondrousova mounted another comeback and won the match’s final four games to advance.
