Union rallies past Burgettstown

NEW CASTLE — Burgettstown had defending WPIAL Class A champion Union on the ropes in the third quarter, but the Scotties scored 34 unanswered points in a 51-37 victory in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs Friday night at New Castle’s Taggart Stadium.

Brodie Kuzior’s 1-yard run extended the Blue Devils’ lead to 30-17 in the third quarter after Colton County converted on his second of PATs. Kuzior gained 113 yards on 31 carries and scored three touchdowns. Teammate Rudy Brown rushed for 138 yards on 20 attempts. 

Union (9-2) responded with four touchdowns and a 44-30 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. 

The Scotties added another touchdown for a 51-30 lead before Zack Schrockman returned the ensuing kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown. Schrockman caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Kuzior in the second quarter. 

Kuzior scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and added another 1-yard run in the second.
