W&J men, Waynesburg women drop openers
Ray Ellington led five Baldwin Wallace players in double figures with 24 points as the Yellow Jackets opened the men’s basketball season with a 100-82 home-court win over Washington & Jefferson on Wednesday night.
BW shot 55 percent from the field in the first half en route to a 57-44 halftime lead.
W&J’s Brandon Jakiela, a South Fayette graduate, scored a game-high 26 points on 11-for-16 shooting. Matt Seidl and Alex Acosta each scored 13 points and Nick Gearhart flipped in 12.
Baldwin Wallace made 11 three-pointers, including five by Brayden Hamilton, who finished with 17 points.

Muskingum 63, Waynesburg 51: Caitlyn DeMassimo scored 15 points and Muskingum used a big edge at the free-throw line to beat Waynesburg 63-51 in a season-opening game Thursday night at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Waynesburg made one more field goal than Muskingum, but the Muskies converted 16 of 22 free throws. Waynesburg did not miss a free throw but attempted only four, including none over the middle two quarters.
Muskingum led 37-22 in the third quarter before Waynesburg made a charge and closed to within 52-48 midway through the fourth quarter.
Marley Wolf led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 12 points and Kara McFadden had 10.
