Boys soccer: Beth-Center clinches playoff berth
Nekoda Bundy scored five goals for Beth-Center, who is playoff bound after defeating California, 8-1, Tuesday night in Class A Section 2.
The Bulldogs improved to 4-4 in section and 9-5 overall.
Parker Amos, Joseph Garrett and Jordan Lowman also found the net for Beth-Center.
Darryl Ray scored for the Trojans (1-5, 3-7).
• McGuffey kept its title hopes alive in Class 2A Section 3 with a 1-0 victory over visiting Yough.
The Highlanders (9-2, 11-3) dominated play throughout, outshooting Yough by a whopping 32-4 margin. McGuffey, however, didn’t find the net until Nate Kler converted on a penalty kick 15 minutes into the second half.
McGuffey, which sits in third place in the section, has a key match Thursday at section co-leader Mount Pleasant.
• Trevor Kovatch scored seven goals as Belle Vernon routed BRownsville 10-0 in Class 2-A Section 3.
Kovatch currently has 40 goals this season, which breaks the Belle Vernon single-season record of 37 by Markello Apodiakos.
Jackson Coneybeer had a pair of goals and Logan Metzger tallied the other goal for Belle Vernon (9-1, 10-2), which remains tied for the section lead.
• Waynesburg scored two goals in the first half and held on for a 2-1 victory over Washington in Class 2A Section 3.
Dalton Taylor and Ryan McCartney scored early goals for Waynesburg and Washington’s Dylan Wudkwych made it 2-1 with 8:23 remaining in the second half.
Raiders goalkeeper Nick Willard made 10 saves.
The loss hurts Washington’s playoff chances as the Prexies fall to 4-7 in section and 4-10 overall. Waynesburg is 3-8, 4-9.
• Ringgold scored four unanswered goals and beat laurel Highlands 5-2 in Class 3 Section 3.
Owen Haywood gave Ringgold (9-2, 11-2) a 1-0 lead 75 seconds into the match, but LH (2-8, 4-9) scored the next two goals. The Rams battled back with two goals from Nick Evans and Haywood’s second of the match to take a 4-2 lead into halftime.
The only goal of the second half was scored by Izaiah Wilson.
• Thomas Jefferson defeated Trinity 2-1 in overtime a Class 3A Section 3 match at Hiller Field.
Trinity’s goal came in the second half on a 25-yard shot by Jacob Jahn that tied the score.
• Addison Hancq scored two goals in Chartiers-Houston’s 4-1 victory over Brentwood in Class A Section 4.
Teammate Juan Melena scored a goal and had two assists as the Bucs (1-7, 2-12) avenged an earlier loss to Brentwood.
Braulio Melena also scored for Chartiers-Houston. Landen Oliverio earned the win in goal.
• Arlo McIntyre finished with four goals to lead undefeatedCharleroi to an 8-1 victory over Laurel Highlands in non-section action Monday. Landon Barcus scored twice, and Jake Chambers and Max Goodwin netted one each for Charleroi (12-0).
