Girls soccer: Shutout keeps Bentworth in playoff race
Bella Moyer kicked in a pair of goals and Bentworth blanked Monessen 4-0 in Class A Section 2 on Wednesday.
The win keeps Bentworth in the playoff hunt with a 4-5-1 record in section and 6-6-1 mark overall.
The Bearcats led 3-0 at halftime. Meredith Allender and Abigail Brandu each had a goal and goalkeeper Cassidy Sicchitano had the shutout that dropped Monessen to 1-7-1 in section and 3-8-1 overall.
South Allegheny used a goal on a penalty kick by Rylee Stetz early in the second half to upset visiting Chartiers-Houston 1-0 in Class A Section 2.
The loss drops C-H to 7-3 in section and 11-3 overall. South Allegheny is 5-4, 10-5.
Camryn Klein had a goal and an assist to lead Peters Township to a 4-1 victory over Norwin in Class 4A Section 2. Julia Spergel, Jordan Klein, and Marina Hajnosz also scored for the Indians and Ella Neupaver contributed an assist.
• Belle Vernon’s Kataira Rhodes scored three goals and assisted on four others as the leopards overwhelmed Albert Gallatin 10-0 in Class 3A Section 2.
• Waynesburg’s Lake Litwinovich had two goals and an assist as the Raiders defeated Beth-Center 5-2 to move into a tie for second place in Class A Section 2.
Bryann Kirby, Rylei Rastoka and Ella Miller each contributed one goal to the Waynesburg attack as the Raiders improved to 7-3 in the section and 10-3 overall. Waynesburg is tied in the standings with Chartiers-Houston.
