Bythemissal wins Allerage Farms open
Bythemissal returned to the winner’s circle Sunday afternoon at The Red Mile in Lexington, Ky., pacing in 1:47.4 to capture the Allerage Farms Open.
The Meadows-based Bythemissal, who was defeated in three of his previous four starts, won for the eighth time in 14 starts (this year and has now been victorious in 22 of 29 lifetime starts (.759 winning percentage).
In winning the $138,500 race, Bythemissal, driven by Yannick Gingras, bested second-place Taurasi, Hemsworth and Linedrive Hanover.
Bythemissal, trained by Ron Burke and owned by the Burke Racing Stable, Fredericktown, was the favorite. He paid $3.02 to win, $2.48 to place and $2.30 to show.
Sticking to the cones until he couldn’t anymore, Bythemissal (Downbytheseaside) launched a first-over move toward the stretch.
Bythemissal came off the gate in third as Linedrive Hanover and Allywag Hanover asserted for the front through a :26.2 first quarter. Allywag Hanover slid to lead the field up the backside and cruised by the half in :53.4 while Gingras kept Bythemissal at the pylons.
Gingras eventually let Bythemissal roll into the final turn and downed Allywag Hanover with ease by three-quarters in 1:21.2. Opening three lengths into the stretch, Bythemissal stayed strong through the lane to register a length win in 1:47.4 over Taurasi, who blasted from last through a seam at the pylons to grab second.
Bythemissal has career earnings of $1,695,466 for his owners, who in addition to the Burke Racing Stable, includes Eric Good, Rich Lombardo and Weaver Bruscemi.
Bythemissal is expected to next compete in the Breeders Crown, Oct. 27-28 at Hoosier Park.
