Cal jumps out early in rout of Seton Hill
California scored three touchdowns in the first four minutes of Saturday afternoon’s Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference against Seton Hill at Adamson Stadium en route to a 41-14 victory.
The Vulcans’ Eric Willis III caught a 75-yard touchdown pass from Davis Black on the first play from scrimmage and Anthony Beitko made the first of five extra points for a 7-0 lead.
Dominic Solomon’s 53-yard interception return for a touchdown came 58 seconds into the contest for a 14-0 advantage before Omari Hopkins took a pass from Black 35 yards into the end zone for a 20-0 lead at 10:56 of the first quarter.
Keith Charney’s 49-yard pick six extended California’s advantage to 27-0 at 12:02 of the second quarter. Hopkins extended the Vulcans’ lead to 34-0 with 37 seconds left in the first half on a 32-yard touchdown reception. Hopkins caught his third touchdown pass, a 22-yard reception from Black, at 4:45 of the third quarter.
Hopkins caught 5 passes for 132 yards and Willis gained 129 yards on 4 receptions. Black was 14 of 23 for 300 yards.
California improved to 4-0 in conference play and 5-1 overall.
Seton Hill (1-3, 2-5) scored two touchdowns in the second half, but the game was too far out of reach.
