Turnovers doom Ringgold in loss to Laurel Highlands

MONONGAHELA — Laurel Highlands turned three Ringgold turnovers into touchdowns and earned a 21-19 victory Friday night in Class 4A Big Seven Conference play at Joe Montana Stadium.

The Rams (0-5, 0-9) had the opportunity to take the lead late in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs (1-4, 2-7) forced a turnover on downs and were able to run out the clock.

Laurel Highlands’ Parker Hoff scored on a 6-yard run with 10:35 left in the first quarter and Tanner Bruzda connected on the first of three PATs for a 7-0 lead.

Ringgold’s Daryl Tolliver responded with a 67-yard touchdown run on the next play from scrimmage and Tyler Jones tied the game with the extra point.

Tolliver scored again on the Rams’ next possession, but one needed one yard to reach the end zone for a 13-7 advantage at 7:18 of the first quarter. Tolliver gained 95 yards rushing on 11 carries.

Antwan Black Jr.’s 33-yard interception return for a touchdown and Darren Dunn’s 32-yard reception from Noah Lion gave the Mustangs a 21-13 halftime advantage.

Jamar Bethea’s 6-yard touchdown run with 8:22 remaining cut Ringgold’s deficit to 21-19.
