Name: Jonah Williamson

School: Trinity

Class: Sophomore

Sport: Football

Williamson’s week: The sophomore quarterback enjoys playing “Madden NFL” just as much as the next person, but on Friday night at Connellsville in the Big Seven Conference opener, Williamson put up “Madden numbers” for the Hillers in a 41-40 victory in the Big Seven Conference opener.

Williamson was 12-of-14 for 234 yards and threw three touchdown passes. He rushed for 233 yards on 23 carries and found the end zone three times. Williamson had a hand in all six of Trinity’s touchdowns.

The Falcons scored a go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter, but Williamson drove the Hillers back down the field on the ensuing drive and scored the game-winning touchdown on a 32-yard run.

Williamson also lined up at safety for a half against Connellsville.

“It is nice to be recognized, and I was pleased with how I played, but all the credit goes to my offensive line for creating holes and giving me time to throw and for my receivers for getting open and making the catches,” Williamson said. “We did a ton of scouting leading up to the Connellsville game and we knew that we had to continue to score as the game was developing into a track meet.”

Natural born leader: Williamson plays catcher for the Hillers’ baseball team and is a shooting guard on the basketball squad. He enjoys playing catcher and the opportunity to be involved in the game on every pitch.

“I love playing catcher in baseball because you have the opportunity to calm down guys and work with my teammates during the game,” Williamson said. “Baseball is a different game when you compare it to football, and I love it. I actually started playing baseball before I got into football. I also try to have the same attitude in terms of leadership when I am playing basketball.”

School comes first: Williamson would like to continue his athletic career in college, but he understands that academics come first, which he attributes to his family, coaches and teachers for pushing him to stay on top of his studies.

“There are definitely times when I am really tired after a long day of school and practice, but I know that I have to prioritize and do my studies,” Williamson said. “There really is no reason to not concentrate on my schoolwork first. I also want to play at the next level, so I know I have to keep my grades up so I can get accepted into a good college.”

Time to relax: With the schedule that Williamson keeps, it’s hard to imagine he has much time to relax, but when he does, he likes to go fishing, hang out with friends, watch sports and play video games.

“I definitely like fishing because it helps me to relax and is very calm compared to the atmosphere in sports,” Williamson said.
