CANONSBURG — Zyan Howard caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from Mike Evans with 2:52 remaining, giving Canon-McMillan a hard-fought 14-7 victory over visiting South Fayette in a non-conference game Friday night.

The win was the third straight for Canon-McMillan (4-1).

The game-winning touchdown came on a third-and-20-play. Evans found Howard over the middle and the wide receiver made a move toward the left sideline and beat the South Fayette defense to the front corner of the end zone.

Evans completed 13 of 24 passes for 170 yards.

The first two touchdowns of the game were scored by quarterbacks. Evans opened the scoring with a 19-yard TD scamper in the first quarter. South Fayette’s Nico Lamonde tied it at 7-7 with a 25-yard jaunt in the second quarter. That’s the way the score remained until Howard’s TD pass.

Lamonde completed 18 of 29 passes for 146 yards for the Lions (2-3).

C-M’s Zach Welsh rushed for 138 yards on 24 carries. The Big Macs held a 319-213 edge in total yards.
