Leps score 6 rushing TDs in conference opener
McKEESPORT — Belle Vernon proved it is still one of the top teams in the WPIAL and state following a 57-6 victory over South Allegheny Friday in a Class 3A Interstate Conference contest.
The Leopards’ Quinton Martin scored four touchdowns and the defense stymied the Gladiators’ offense until a touchdown in the fourth quarter with the clock running and the Belle Vernon starters out of the game.
Martin scored on runs of 17, 8, 1 and 22 yards. The Leopards started fast, as Anthony Crews returned the kickoff 69 yards to the South Allegheny seven and Kole Doppelheuer from seven yards out for a 7-0 lead 17 seconds into the contest.
Following Martin’s first score, Belle Vernon added a safety after the punt went over the head of the Gladiators’ punter and into the end zone for a 15-0 advantage in the first quarter.
Braden Laux threw touchdown passes to Colton Lee and Zach Gelenski and Curtis Wade found the end zone for the Leopards (1-0, 4-1).
