Polish 7th in Paralympic archery ranking
PARIS – Kevin (KJ) Polish finished Thursday’s ranking round in the individual compound archery competition in seventh place ahead of the elimination round today at the 2024 Paralympics.
The Mapletown graduate, who operates KJ’s Pro Archery in Carmichaels, finished with a season-best combined score of 695. He was consistent, scoring 347 in the first half and 348 in the second half.
Polish posted 47 scores of 10 and had 23 Xs in the opening day of competition.
Polish faces Spain’s Fernamdo Gale Montorio in the elimination round. The Spaniard finished 26th in the 32-man field with a score of 678.
Polish’s teammate Matt Stutzman finished 19th in the ranking round with a score of 686. He had 41 10s and 19 Xs. Stutzman faces Mexico’s Victor Sardino Viveros in the elimination round.
The competition concludes Sunday with the quarterfinals, semifinals and medal rounds.
China’s Xinliang Ai (709) and Zihou He (706) were the only archers to top 700 points.
Finland’s Jere Forsberg (697), Canada’s Kyle Tremblay (697), India’s Rakesh Kumar (696), and Great Britain’s Nathan MacQueen (696) placed third through sixth in the ranking round.
Eric McElvenny of Belle Vernon will be competing in the men’s triathlon competition, which will be held Sunday.
This is the second Paralympics for both Polish and McElvenny.
