Three members of the Marshalek family have recorded holes-in-one on the No. 16 at Nemacolin Country Club over the past 38 years. From left are Tom, Rose and Rudy Marshalek.

If a golfer is fortunate enough to make a hole or holes-in-one in their lifetime, they will never forget the first one.

Three members of the Marshalek family have made at least one hole-in-one, but what makes their feat unique is carding the ace at Nemacolin Country Club in Beallsville.

Tom Marshalek, his brother Rudy, and Rudy’s wife, Rose, not only made the shot at Nemacolin, but they did it on the 16th hole.

“I have never heard of three people carding the same hole-in-one at the same course,” Rudy Marshalak said. “I started playing around 1960 or 1961 and I still play twice a week. There is a lot of competition and I play with a good group of guys.”

Rudy, who made his first hole-in-one April 2, 2002, has added three more aces since his first. Rudy, who played golf in college, normally shoots his age (82) on an 18-hole course, and he shot a 70 three weeks ago at Nemacolin.

Rose and Tom each have made one hole-in-one, but Rose was the first to accomplish the feat on Aug. 29, 1986, which Rudy said is something she frequently reminds him about.

“It only took her 2½ years to make a hole-in-one from the time she started playing,” Rudy Marshalek said. “It took me about 42 years.”

Tom is the newest to the hole-in-one club after making his July 10 from 127 yards and using an 8-iron.

“I am 75 and have been playing since I was 8, so I am very happy to have made it,” Tom Marshalek said. “I was self-taught and would hit the ball in a cow pasture, and I enjoyed it with a lot of my friends. I still enjoy the game, and most of my friends are golf-related.”

Tom, who resides in Scenery Hill with his wife of 52 years, was able to watch his grandchildren, Austin and Paige Marshalek, play for the Bentworth High School team. Paige was also a member of the Bearcats’ soccer team.

“Golf is in the blood of the Marshaleks,” said Tom Marshalek. “It was some feat to have all three of us make a hole-in-one at not only the same course, but the same hole. It’s pretty special.”
