Peters Township seventh grader Kat Monko had the opportunity to play for her country in the World Selects Invitational hockey tournament from April 23-27 in Chamonix, France.

Monko’s team not only accounted for themselves well, but the Midwest Selects won the championship with a 3-2 victory over Pro Hockey out of Toronto in the finals. The Midwest Selects defeated Sweden, 4-2, in the semifinals.

Monko had four points over eight games with two goals and two assists, including a howitzer from the point that beat the Swedish goalie to her blocker side (right) that tied the game at 1-1.

Monko plays defense but can also join the rush. She will be playing in the Rose Series in Charleston, S.C., and Jacksonville, Fla.
