Yeater’s buzzer-beater lifts Chartiers-Houston past Waynesburg
Sophomore West Yeater scored a career-high 20 points, including a contested three-pointer from the left wing at the buzzer that gave Chartiers-Houston a 56-54 victory over visiting Waynesburg in a non-section game Wednesday night.
It was the fourth three-pointer of the game for Yeater and capped a comeback by C-H (5-2). Waynesburg (2-4) led 28-23 at halftime but C-H battled back and grabbed a 44-42 lead entering the final period.
Brody McCrerey scored 16 points for the Bucs and Aaron Walsh added 12.
Waynesburg’s Dane Woods scored a game-high 22 points. Jackson Dean and Austin Surber each had 11.
Charleroi 67, Steel Valley 27
Charleroi had as good of a start against winless Steel Valley as you can possibly experience. The Cougars outscored the visiting Ironmen 29-0 in the first eight minutes and went on to a 62-27 victory in a non-section game.
Xacion Thomas scored 15 points and Jackson Keranko had 14 for the Cougars (4-3), who led 42-17 at halftime.
Girls basketball
Washington 47, South Allegheny 12
Washington prepared for its key game at Waynesburg tonight with a 47-12 road victory over winless South Allegheny in a non-section game Wednesday.
The Prexies dominated from the outset, leading 26-7 at halftime.
Faith Partozoti scored 15 points and Olivia Woods added 14 for Wash High (4-1).
Fort Cherry 64, Carlynton 13
Fort Cherry steamrolled Carlynton 64-13 in the Class 2A Section 2 opener.
The Rangers (1-0, 3-4) led 24-5 after one quarter and outscored Carlynton (0-1, 2-4) 24-0 in the second quarter.
Brooke Cornali led the winners with 21 points. Allison Litman added 12, Gianna Bianchini had 11 and Julie Klose 10.
