Trinity quarterback Jonah Williamson received recognition for a stellar season on Wednesday.
Williamson was named to the Class 4A All-State team that was released on Christmas Eve.
The teams were compiled by votes from sportswriters across the state of Pennsylvania. The Class 2A, 4A and 6A teams were released Wednesday, while the Class A, 3A, and 5A teams were revealed Tuesday.
Williamson, a senior, is on the All-State team for the first time. He was also a member of the Observer-Reporter’s Terrific 22 and won Offensive Player of the Year in the Big Six Conference.
It was a season to remember for the Hillers, who won their first conference title since 1986, and Williamson was at the center of it.
Williamson pulled off a double 1,000-yard season. He was 103 for 166 passing for 1,494 yards with 20 touchdowns to only eight interceptions. He rushed for exactly 1,000 yards and 17 touchdowns.
He was one of four quarterbacks to make the team joining Southern Lehigh’s Colton Sams, Susquehanna Township’s Torin Evans and Aliquippa’s Marquis Council.
Council and Williamson faced off in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs with Aliquippa edging out the Hillers, 21-14.
Prior to the playoffs, Williamson led the Hillers on an incredible 5-0 unbeaten run through the Big Six Conference.
Following a 1-4 start in nonconference play, Trinity reeled off five-straight double-digit wins to secure the conference title outright. It was its first conference championship in 39 years.
The signature win was a 33-22 comeback victory against Thomas Jefferson, a game that the Hillers trailed 22-7 at halftime. Williamson threw two touchdown passes and scored another on a short run.
He also spearheaded a key 42-18 win over Chartiers Valley in a game that the Hillers racked up 376 yards rushing. Williamson had 152 rushing yards and four touchdowns. He opened the scoring with a five-yard run and had touchdown runs of 75, 40 and 11 yards.
Williamson will continue his career at Harvard. He finished his career at Trinity with 5,080 passing yards and 3,282 rushing yards. He had 47 rushing and passing touchdowns.
Before he leaves for the Ivy League he still has some athletic events at Trinity. Williamson is a starting guard on the basketball team and is a standout catcher on a baseball team that had its first winning season last year since 2013.
Williamson became the seventh football player from Washington County to make an All-State football team. Peters Township’s James Spratt (linebacker), Reston Lehman (defensive line), Nolan DiLucia (quarterback) and Lucas Shanafelt (tight end) made the Class 5A team. Fort Cherry’s Matt Sieg (quarterback) and Bentworth’s Ben Hays (running back) were on the Class A team.
