Meadow Ferri helped Chartiers-Houston softball reach the PIAA Class 2A semifinals as part of a successful senior year.
Now she can call herself one of the best in the state.
Ferri, a Kent State recruit, was named the Class 2A Pitcher of the Year by the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association Tuesday.
Ferri joined two Chartiers-Houston teammates on the PHSSBCA Class 2A All-State team.
Catcher Ella Richey, the state’s all-time leader in home runs with 43, and shortstop Lauren Rush are also first-teamers. Rush will return next year for her senior season, while Richey graduated and is headed to King University in Tennessee to play in college.
Other first-teamers were Bentworth’s Sydney Gonglik (Class 2A), Trinity’s Ally Krenzelak (5A) and Carmichaels’ Bailey Barnyak and Ashton Batis, and Carys McConnell (Class A).
Gonglik was sidelined most of the season from pitching because of injury, but swung a strong bat, which helped her garner first-team All-State honors in 2A at first base.
Krenezlak helped Trinity reach the WPIAL quarterfinals as a standout outfielder.
Barnyak pitched the Mikes to the WPIAL championship and Batis and McConnell locked down the middle infield. Batis played second base McConnell was the shortstop.
Batis was one of the three recipients of the Courage Award along with Lily Davidson of Dubois Central Catholic and Hunter Kresge of Abington Heights.
All three overcame major injuries to get back on the field this season and the award recognizes their commitment and dedication to playing high school softball.
Carmichaels catcher Kaitlyn Waggett joined three West Greene players on the Class A second team. Pitcher Payton Gilbert, shortstop Kendra Tharp and outfielder Marissa Tharp made the list for the Pioneers.
