Waynesburg secures win in season finale

Waynesburg broke open a close game by scoring three unanswered touchdowns in the third quarter and defeated visiting Saint Vincent 35-24 in the Yellow Jackets’ season finale.

Waynesburg ends the year at 4-4 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference and 4-6 overall.

Saint Vincent (1-5, 2-6) led 17-14 at halftime, but Waynesburg scored 21 points in the third quarter to forge a 35-17 lead. Carson Shriver had scoring runs of one and 34 yards around Luke Hudson’s 19-yard TD pass to Giovanni Cipoletti in Waynesburg’s big quarter. Hudson was 18-for-21 for 205 yards,

Shriver, who finished the game with 119 yards on 25 carries, had a three-yard TD in the first quarter. Joanes Polynice blocked a punt and returned it eight yards for Waynesburg’s first touchdown.

Chris Downs caught 10 passes for 177 yards and two scores for the Bearcats.
