Name: Silvi Rossi

Grade: Freshman

School: South Fayette

Sport: Soccer

Rossi’s Week: As one of the youngest players on the team, Rossi helped South Fayette girls soccer make history. A freshman striker, Rossi scored the game-winning goal in the semifinal match, a 6-1 win against DuBois Tuesday and the state championship, a 3-1 victory against Radnor on Saturday. Her goal Saturday helped the Lions secure the program’s first state title.

“It had really been our end goal since the beginning of the season,” Rossi said. “We talked about not only the WPIAL, but getting to the next level to the (state) championship. It’s really cool to be able to contribute and do that for my team.”

Family ties: Rossi started playing soccer at age four and had plenty of positive influences in her household growing up.

She is the youngest of four siblings and her older brothers and sister played soccer growing up and each one made an impact.

Her older sister Julianna was on the South Fayette team that won the 2023 and ’24 WPIAL championships.

“She was a big help, because she introduced me to the coaches and I got to know them through her,” Rossi said. “She’s always helped me practice in the back yard. She’s taught me a lot.”

Her older brother Charlie was also a big influence.

“He stopped playing soccer before middle school, but loves watching soccer,” Rossi said. “He loves the European leagues and has a really high soccer IQ. He knows what to tell me and how to help me.”

Another unique aspect for Rossi is having a two-time state champion head coach as a parent. Joe Rossi is her dad. He led South Fayette football to four WPIAL championships and a pair of state championships in his 17 seasons as coach before stepping down in 2023.

She’s now one state championship away from tying him and still has three more years to get another.

“He’s had a big impact on my sports,” Rossi said. “He coached football, but his coaching mentality and how he teaches kids definitely impacted me. I saw how well he interacted with kids and it’s pushed me to be like that.”

Rossi plays club soccer for Beadling and will be making her debut on the indoor and outdoor track and field teams at South Fayette this winter and spring. In middle school Rossi ran the 100 meter, 400, and the 400 and 1600 relay teams.

Music and writing: A hobby Rossi has recently picked up is playing the guitar. She’s still in the preliminary stages of learning the instrument, but has enjoyed doing so.

“I used to play the ukulele, but my brother learned how to play the guitar last summer,” Rossi said. “Hearing him play a little bit I started to try and teach myself. I watched some Tik Toks on it and I only know a little bit, but it’s something I like to do in my spare time.”

Her favorite subject in school is English and she enjoys writing essays.

“My mom is a (English Language Arts) teacher, so I think she’s had a little bit of an affect on me with that,” Rossi said.
