Defending state champ South Fayette gets two wins at NA
The defending state champion South Fayette Girls basketball team is off to a strong start.
The Lions (2-0) won a pair of games this weekend at the North Allegheny tournament, beating the host Tigers 67-37 Sunday and Greensburg Central Catholic, 75-48 Saturday.
Ella Vierra led the Lions Sunday with 15 points and Ryan Oldaker scored 14. North Allegheny (0-2) was paced by Vange Balouris’ 14 points.
On Saturday, Haylie Lamonde led five South Fayette players in double figures with 21 points.
Juliette Leroux had 13 points, Vierra and Lailah Wright scored 12 each and Kenzie Rumberger had 10 for the Lions (1-0).
Erica Gribble had 16 points and became the all-time leading scorer in Greensburg Central Catholic history in the loss.
Belle Vernon 53, Imhotep Charter 51
Belle Vernon rallied in the fourth quarter to top Imhotep Charter 53-51 Sunday at the Play 4 Mae Tournament at Woodland Hills.
The Leopards outscored Imhotep, 17-7, in the fourth quarter. Isis Almyty led Belle Vernon with 19 points.
Belle Vernon went 1-1 on the weekend, losing to York Suburban, 50-7, on Saturday.

Trinity 55, Mt. Lebanon 47
Sutton Williamson led three Trinity players in double-figures with 13 points in a 55-47 win over Mt. Lebanon at the North Allegheny tournament.
Bently Layhue and Gabby Humphreys added 12 points each for the Hillers, who improved to 2-0 on the weekend. Reese Hall led the Blue Devils (0-1) with 10 points.
West Greene 60, Jefferson-Morgan 9
West Greene (2-0) scored the game’s first 30 points and coasted to a 60-9 win over tournament host Jefferson-Morgan (1-1).
Madelyn Roberts netted game-high 17 points and Jillissa Yeater scored 12. Catelynn Teagarden had four points for the Rockets.
Canon-McMillan 50, Chartiers Valley 43
Canon-McMillan used an 11-6 margin in the fourth quarter to secure a 50-43 win over Chartiers Valley (0-1).
Lauren Borella led the Big Macs (1-0) with 15 points and Madison Clair scored 12.
Alyssa Davis poured in a game-high 20 points for the Colts.
Burgettstown 50, Mapletown 13
Paige Klodowski scored 22 points and the Burgettstown (1-1) defense held Mapletown (0-2) to single-digit point totals in all four quarters in a 50-13 win at the Avella tournament.
Helena Cumpston had six points for the Maples.
McGuffey 60, Avella 15
Lucy Weiss and Eliana Janovich had 12 points apiece to lead McGuffey (2-0) to a victory over tournament host Avella (1-1) in the championship game.
Geibel 72, Beth-Center 24
Emma Larkin scored a game-high 27 points and Mallory Clemmer chipped in 21 points to lead Geibel (2-0) to a 72-24 win over Beth-Center (0-2) at the Jefferson-Morgan tournament.
Alexa Morgan added 13 points for the Gators, who held the Bulldogs to single digits in all four quarters, including no points in the fourth.
Kiera Lamp led the Bulldogs with seven points.
Ligonier Valley 46, Carmichaels 35
Ke’Lani Chun had 13 points, but Carmichaels (0-2) fell, 46-35 to Ligonier Valley (1-1) at the Jefferson-Morgan tournament. Adleish Myers (14 points), Alyssa Queer (11) and Ruby Smith (10) scored in double figures for the Rams.

Avella 52, Frazier 36
Brayden Fuller scored 15 points to help Avella (2-0) beat Frazier 52-36 in the championship game of the McGuffey tournament.
Cameron Ullom added 13 points for the Eagles, who led 35-19 at halftime and cruised from there. Austin Stewart led Frazier (1-1) with 14 points.
Canon-McMillan 51, Trinity 38
Roman Koenemund scored 22 points to help Canon-McMillan (1-0) secure a 51-38 win over Trinity (0-1).
Chase Kostelnik led the Hillers with 12 points and Jonah Williamson scored 10.
Chartiers-Houston 51, McGuffey 41
A big third quarter helped Chartiers-Houston (1-1) upend tournament host McGuffey (0-2).
The Bucs won the frame 20-2 and went on to secure a 51-41 win.
McGuffey led 26-18 at halftime, but saw the Bucs win the second half 33-15.
Aaron Walsh led the Bucs with 14 points. Ayden Janovich scored 13 for McGuffey.
Ringgold 77, Elizabeth-Forward 62
Braylen Lomax and Takeo Tolliver had 16 points each to lead a balanced Ringgold attack in a 77-62 win over Elizabeth Forward (0-2) in the Mon Valley Shootout at West Mifflin.
David Wachinski finished with 15 points, Demetri Lowe added 11 points and Dennis Hawkins scored 10 for the Rams (1-1).
Tyler Basic netted 26 points for the Warriors.
Propel Montour 81, Burgettstown 67
Marjai Porch poured in 27 points to pace Propel Montour (1-0) in an 81-67 victory over Burgettstown (0-1).
Tom Pinno added 18 points for Propel Montour. Blake Neal paced Burgettstown with a career-high 24 points. Colton County also notched a career-high in points, scoring 18.
Bishop Canevin 75, Belle Vernon 67
Bishop Canevin used a 28-19 advantage in the fourth quarter to rally past Belle Vernon, 75-67, at the Mon Valley Shootout at West Mifflin.
Drew Allen led the Crusaders (2-0) with 26 points. Luca Ghilani and Elijah Majors scored 18 points each for the Leopards (1-1) and Curty Wade scored 16.
