The PennWest California baseball team did something that no other PSAC West team has done this year.

The Vulcans beat Seton Hill.

They snapped the 17th-ranked Griffins’ 22-game winning streak, with a 6-4 victory in game two of their double header Saturday.

Seton Hill (19-1, 33-8) took the first game 6-2, but the Vulcans (12-8, 23-15) responded by taking a 5-0 lead through four innings in game two before holding on late.

Ikon Jones’ RBI single in the second gave the Vulcans an early lead. California added four more runs in the fourth. Jones reached on a bases-loaded hit by pitch before Caleb Collins lined a two-run single up the middle. Cole Fleck added an RBI single.

Connor Evans hit a solo homer run in the bottom of the sixth to provide some insurance.

Seton Hill loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but Evan Stranko got out of the jam with a flyout to earn a save.

Roman Gill (5-1) earned the win pitching five innings. He allowed two runs on five hits, struck out two and did not allow a walk.

Washington & Jefferson 6-13, Grove City 7-1: Washington & Jefferson split with Grove City in PAC play, dropping the first game 7-6 before cruising to a 13-1 win in game two.

Grove City (10-6, 15-14) used a four-run fifth inning to take control and held on in game one. Washington & Jefferson (13-3, 23-7) scored a run in the ninth and had the tying run at third, but Grove City pitcher Corey Veverka came in to record the final two outs to strand him.

Luke Alvarez and Andrew Miko hit a pair of homers in game two for the Presidents.

Alvarez had a two-run shot during a four-run first inning. He also hit a two-run homer in the sixth. Miko recorded a two-run home run in the second inning and a solo blast in the fourth.

That was plenty of run support for Brendan Cruz, who improved to 7-0 after allowing one run over six innings pitched.

Hiram 8-6, Waynesburg 3-4: Hiram spoiled Waynesburg’s senior day with an 8-3, 6-4 sweep of a PAC doubleheader.

Hiram (9-7, 12-18) scored five runs in the top of the first inning of game one. Eli Boring and Brody McMillan had an RBI single for the Yellow Jackets in game one.

Waynesburg led 2-1 early in the second game after an RBI single by Hunter Hamilton in the first inning and a run-scoring double by Kaden Flambard in the second inning.

The teams traded runs from there until Hiram took the lead for good in the top of the sixth and added an insurance run in the ninth.
