High school softball: Gonglik’s no-hitter wins for Bentworth
Sidney Gonglik fired a seven-inning no-hitter, leading undefeated Bentworth to a 3-0 win over visiting Washington on Tuesday in Class 2A Section 4.
Gonglik struck out 12 and walked only one batter, Z Kiyah Hines to start the third inning. Hines was caught stealing and Gonglik finished the day facing the minimum 21 batters.
Gonglik and Nora Lindley both had two-hit days for the Bearcats (9-0, 15-0).
Wash High pitcher Chessa Henderson allowed only six hits and one earned run.
Chartiers-Houston 13, Seton LaSalle 3: Lauren Rush went 4-for-4, Kiera Drilak and Sophia Robinson hit home runs and Chartiers-Houston completed a perfect Class 2A Section 3 schedule with a 13-3 win over visiting Seton LaSalle in six innings.
The section champion Bucs went 10-0 in the league. They are 16-1 overall.
Rush hit two doubles, drove in a pair and scored three times. Drilak hit a two-run homer and finished with three RBI. Robinson had a solo homer, and Brookly Hess and Mackenzie Shumar each scored three runs.
Winning pitcher Taryne Drilak struck out seven.
Canon-McMillan 3, North Allegheny 0: Lyla Mowery fired a one-hit shutout as Canon-McMillan defeated visiting North Allegheny 3-0 in Class 6A.
Mowery walked three and struck out two. The lone hit for NA (4-10, 4-11) was a leadoff single by Twila Goulding in the third inning.
Canon-Mac (6-8, 7-8) scored the only run Mowery would need in the fourth inning and tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth.
Carmichaels 21, Monessen 0: Bailey Barnyak fired a three-inning perfect game, striking out all nine batters she faced, Kenlee Machesky hit a three-run homer and Carmichaels routed Monessen 21-0 in a nonsection game between playoff-bound Class A teams.
Barnyak needed only 39 pitches to record the nine strikeouts.
Carys McConnell was 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI for Carmichaels (13-3).
Monessen is 4-8.
McGuffey 18, East Allegheny 1: McGuffey hit five doubles in an 18-0 thumping of host East Allegheny in Class 3A Section 3.
Maura Janovich, Julianna Ward, Kali Franks, Courtney Bedillion and Sidney Dobrzynski hit two-baggers for the Highlanders (7-3, 8-5) and Ellie Henderson drove in three runs. Janovich and Ward each scored three times.
Jefferson-Morgan 6, Albert Gallatin 4: Gabby Marmie went 4-for-4 and smacked four doubles, powering Jefferson-Morgan to a 6-4 come-from-behind win over host Albert Gallatin in a nonsection game.
Jefferson-Morgan(12-5) trailed 4-2 after AG (1-15) scored three times in the fourth inning. The Rockets, however, answered with four runs in the fifth.
Winning pitcher Emilee Bazzoli also had a double. Marimie scored two runs and drove in another.
