PEARL Miss. – The Washington Wild Things’ week-long endeavor in Mississippi ended with a loss.

The Mud Monsters pounded Washington, 17-8, in the six-game series finale Sunday night at Trustmark Park.

The two teams split the six-game series, which began Tuesday.

Mississippi scored three times in the second, once in the third, three times in the fourth, four times in the fifth, four times in the seventh and twice in the eighth, notching a season-high 20 hits against the Wild Things and a season-high 17 runs. Washington starter Ben Kowalski was tagged for seven in four innings, Colt Anderson for two in two frames, Jack Brodsky for four (two earned) in one inning and Michael Foltz Jr. for two in his outing over one inning.

Andrew Czech blasted two homers and finished the series 12-for-22 at the plate with 12 RBI and 20 trips aboard the bases, which put him at 92 for the season, growing on a new career high. He’s three RBI shy of tying the single season record for Washington. Anthony Brocato added a 464-foot blast, which was his 26th of the season and traveled farther than any other ball this season hit by a Wild Thing. Washington plated two in the eighth on a bases-loaded walk to Billy Sullivan and a groundout by Kyle Edwards before adding a run on a wild pitch in the ninth.

Washington (56-28) returns home to play a three-game series with Evansville, which begins Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. The Wild Things are five games ahead of second-place Evansville in the Central Division standings.
