Mark Marietta Trinity's Daniel Glass (10) committed to play college football at Davidson on Tuesday.

Daniel Glass went through the Trinity football team’s heat acclimatization week with a weight off his shoulders.

That’s because he knows where he’s going to continue his playing career after high school.

Glass committed to play college football at Davidson on Tuesday.

He announced his decision on social media.

“It feels good to commit before school starts, because it’s a big burden off your back, Glass said. “You don’t have to stress as much. It also feels good, because I’m committed to a great school and a great football program. I’m excited to play at the next level.

“I couldn’t have done it without the support of my family, my teammates and my coaches.”

Glass was not the only Trinity football player to choose his college last week. Bruising senior running back Owen Gardner announced he will play at Carnegie Mellon.

Davidson is the lone NCAA Division I FCS school to extend and offer to Glass so far. He also has offers from Wheeling and West Liberty, a pair of Division II schools.

An in-school visit from the Davidson coaches after last football season was when the school first got on Glass’ radar and the relationship built from there.

“After they came to the school and met me and from there it was mutual over the phone communication,” Glass said. “We had a showcase here and they came to it. After that they wanted to get me down for a visit. Once I went down there that’s when I received the offer. After talking to my family and friends, I decided to commit.”

Glass had a big junior season with Trinity. He was an All-Conference running back for the Hillers with 800 all-purpose yards and shined on defense with 45 tackles, a pair of interceptions, one he returned for a touchdown, and a fumble recovery. He also had a punt return for a touchdown against Laurel Highlands.

He was a major contributor on a Hillers team that won a conference title for the first time since 1986.

Davidson has recruited Glass as a cornerback. Trinity coach Dan Knause feels he’ll fit in well at that position at the college level.

“He’s twitchy and has always been a very strong athlete, but his work ethic has taken him to the next level,” Knause said. “He’s a very explosive and strong football player on both sides of the ball.”

Glass took a visit to Davidson in June and was impressed by the facilities the football program had to offer.

“Everything is very new,” Glass said. “The weight room is great. The field is brand new. The locker room is great.”

Davidson, which is located north of Charlotte in North Carolina, plays in the Pioneer Football League in the FCS. This year is the 130th season for the Davidson football program.

Another important piece of the puzzle was the education part. Glass was impressed with the academics that Davidson provides.

“The school was ranked in the top 10 by the Wall Street Journal, so the education is there and the football is there,” Glass said. “It’s a very beautiful place and different from Pennsylvania. It’s away from home and that’s something that I wanted.”

With his college decision in the books, Glass will now focus on helping Trinity build off its best football season in 39 years as a two-way standout at running back and defensive back.
