Junior guard Mia Henkins scored a game-high 20 points, senior guard Kalista Friday added 16 and the Waynesburg women’s basketball team upset Saint Vincent 77-68 in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference game Wednesday at Kennedy Hall in Latrobe.

Saint Vincent (9-2, 14-6) entered the game tied for first place in the PAC’s South Division with Washington & Jefferson and a half-game ahead of third-place Bethany.

Perhaps a sign of things to come, Waynesburg picked up a point before tipoff because of an administrative technical foul against Saint Vincent for a malfunctioning shot clock horn.

Waynesburg (6-5, 10-10), which has won four in a row, almost knocked off Saint Vincent in an earlier meeting as the Bearcats pulled out a two-point win at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse. This time, Waynesburg fell behind 20-8 in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets, however, pulled even at 33-33 at halftime as Henkins scored 10 of her points in the opening 20 minutes. Waynesburg took a one-point lead into the fourth quarter and pulled away down the stretch by making 10 free throws in the final quarter.

Kara McFadden scored 11 points for Waynesburg and Clara-Paige Miller grabbed 11 rebounds.

Camden Bashor scored 17 points for Saint Vincent.

Washington & Jefferson 76, Franciscan 47

Washington & Jefferson moved into sole possession of first place in the PAC’s South Division with a 76-47 home-court victory over Franciscan.

The Presidents (10-1, 15-5) held Franciscan to two points in the first quarter and led 39-19 at halftime.

Riley DeRubbo scored 23 points for W&J. DeRubbo made 8 of 11 shots and was 5-for-5 from three-point range.
