High School Basketball: Avella tops Burgettstown at Mahoney Classic

Brayden Fuller led four Avella players in double figures with 17 points in a 60-47 win over host Burgettstown Saturday at the ABARTA Coca-Cola Chuckie Mahoney Classic.

Nate Cilia had 14 points, Bryce Wright netted 13 and Cameron Ullom scored 12 for the Eagles. Avella (8-2) built a 16-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Blake Neal finished with 13 points for the Blue Devils (2-9).

Seneca Valley 71, Canon-McMillan 62 (OT)

Seneca Valley rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Canon-McMillan, 71-62 in overtime in a nonsection game.

The Raiders (6-5) outscored the Big Macs, 20-11, in overtime. Owen Congdon scored 24 points for the Raiders.

Roman Koenemund had a game-high 25 points for Canon-McMillan (5-6) and Keegan Williams contributed 15 points.

Canon-McMillan led 25-19 at halftime.

Washington 59, Fort Cherry 40

Tristan Reed had 22 points to pace Washington (5-6) in a 56-40 win over Fort Cherry (5-4) at the ABARTA Coca-Cola Chuckie Mahoney Classic at Burgettstown.

Will Callan added 11 points for the Prexies, who built a 24-12 lead at halftime.

Connor Vansickle and Tyler Wolfe finished with 10 points each for the Rangers.

Girls Results

Burgettstown 56, Weir (W.Va.) 31

Paige Klodowski netted 30 points to power host Burgettstown to a 56-31 win over Wier (W.Va.) at the ABARTA Coca-Cola Chuckie Mahoney Classic.

Emilyn Harrison chipped in 11 points for the Blue Devils. Burgettstown (9-3) held Weir to single-digit point totals in all four quarters.

Chartiers-Houston 52, McGuffey 40: Ali Wingard had 19 points to help Chartiers-Houston improve to 9-1 overall with a 52-40 win over McGuffey at the ABARTA Coca-Cola Chuckie Mahoney Classic at Burgettstown.

With the score tied at 25-25 at halftime, the Bucs used a 18-9 advantage in the third quarter to take control.

Eliana Janovich scored 18 points for the Highlanders (7-5).

Fort Cherry 44, Washington 28

Julie Klose and Gianna Bianchini poured in 14 points each to pace Fort Cherry (7-4) in a 44-28 victory over Wash High (5-4) in the ABARTA Coca-Cola Chuckie Mahoney Classic at Burgettstown.

Allison Litman added 10 points for the Rangers, who used a 21-6 advantage in the third quarter to break the game open.

Olivia Woods had 12 points for the Prexies.

Trinity 46, Penn Hills 28

Sutton Williamson had 11 points and five blocks to help Trinity (8-3) top Penn Hills (5-5).

The Hillers outscored the Indians 14-4 in the second quarter to take a 20-7 lead into halftime.

Vitt Emerich added 10 points for Trinity and Bently Layhue pulled down 10 rebounds.

Miliani Oliver had a game-high 13 points for Penn Hills.

Waynesburg 64, Beth-Center 32

Emma Blair scored 20 points as Waynesburg (9-1) cruised to a 64-32 win over Beth-Center (4-6).

Tess Pauley added 15 points and Chatham Knight scored 10 for the Raiders.

Kyleigh McDaniel led the Bulldogs with 11 points and Alexia Fischer contributed 10 points.

In other games: The McGuffey boys downed Weir (W.Va.) 45-28 and South Park topped California 89-32 in a nonsection boys game.
