Another C Note off to perfect start in 2026
Meadows Notebook
It would be a stretch to label a 3-year-old pacer as a late bloomer, but Another C Note really was not considered among the top 2-year-olds in the Burke Racing Stable, Fredericktown, in 2025.
Thus, Another C Note was not staked to big races for this season.
His performance through the first half of 2026 certainly has Hall of Fame trainer Ron Burke and the owners of Another C Note thinking about supplementing the Captaintreacherous colt to some bigger races this month and next.
The Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC share ownership, Canonsburg, with Let It Ride Stables Inc., Boca Raton, FL, and Scott Dillon, Anson, ME.
Another C Note is eligible for the Hempt at Pocono Downs in August and next month’s Adios at The Meadows.
As was the case last year, expect the Burke Racing Stable to enter a flotilla of 3-year-olds pacers in the race.
Another C Note closed to win Saturday at Pocono Downs at Mohegan in a lifetime best 1:49.3 in the $20,000 feature pace. He was driven by Tyler Buter.
Another C Note is perfect in eight starts this season.
“I cannot believe how good he came back,” Burke said of Another C Note comparing 2025 with 2026. “That’s probably the biggest improvement we’ve had a horse make from two- to three-years-old. He always was (ready to) go, but he steered funny and he was put in bad spots and now he just does everything well. I even said to Mark (Weaver), we have to start thinking about, you know, maybe looking to supplement him to some big races down the road because he’s obviously better.
“It’s the steering. Before he did things his way, and not our way, and now he’s come around to where he is more responsive to starting, when you want stopping and when you want going left and right. Before he was just kind of all over the place. I just think he had an immature mind. Now, his mind is growing up to match his body. The breeding is there. So, in that way, it doesn’t surprise us. I’m just surprised how much and how quickly he’s improved.”
The colt found a new path to victory Saturday. The quadruple stakes winner (including all three legs of his Sire Stakes action thus far in 2026) had been racing on or near the pace, but against five older horses, he was taken off the gate off of an absence since May 24, and fractions of :26.1, :55, and 1:22.1 on the inside.
Buter found space to angle in front of another horse on the far turn, and directed Another C Note wide and clear nearing the head of the stretch. He paced the last quarter in :26.3 with the second half of that faster than the first, to defeat Pocono Piker Congressional by three-quarters of a length.
Another C Note did have some success last year winning three of 12 races and finishing second twice and third three times.
In his career, Another C. Note has won 11 of 20 starts (.550 winning percentage) and finished in the top three 16 times (.800 on the board percentage).
“He was OK at two-years-old,” owner Mark Weaver said. “It’s just some horses get a little bit better from 2- to 3-years old and some horses get a lot better. I think he’s one of those. I think it’s maybe a blessing in disguise that he’s not overly staked. Right now, some of the better ones (were) up in Canada banging their heads. He’s been down here, with easier races.
“That’s kind of the neat thing about racing. Traditionally, the horses in the North American Meadowlands Pace the best of the best. Sometimes you get one that wasn’t eligible for those races that’s pretty darn good, too.”
Down the Stretch
Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. and Dave Palone continue to trade places atop the list of top drivers at The Meadows this season. Going into racing Wednesday, Wrenn leads by two, 168-166, in total victories. Palone has the edge in Universal Driver Rating (UDR), .422 to .407, while Wrenn has a higher winning percentage, 26.8 to 26.2.
Among trainers, Burke leads the way in wins with 107, followed by Brandon Presto with 94. Presto holds the edge in winning percentage (29.0 to 26.8) and trainer rating (.446 to .392). Among smaller stables, Bill Bercury has lifted his season numbers to 18 wins in 55 starts and a UTRS rating of .487.
