High School Roundup
Washington used the long ball to take down Jefferson-Morgan.
Chessa Henderson, Z Kyiah Hines, Kali Hagan and Kieran Wormsley hit a home run apiece for the Prexies in an 11-1 win over the Rockets in a nonsection softball game Thursday afternoon that featured two playoff-bound teams.
Henderson was the winning pitcher for the Prexies (10-7) with four strikeouts over five innings. Robi Finley, Emilee Bazzoli and Addyson Teagarden had a single each for the Rockets (14-6).
Waynesburg 1, McGuffey 0: Gina Tedrow pitched a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts to help Waynesburg (7-11) secure a 1-0 win over McGuffey (9-6).
Elle Makel hit a solo homer in the first inning for the game’s lone run. Miley Main had five strikeouts over six innings for McGuffey in the loss and Nicole Klages tripled.
South Park 9, Bentworth 0: Sydney Sekely pitched a complete game shutout with 10 strikeouts and hit a two-run double to push South Park (17-1) to a 9-0 win at Bentworth (17-2).
Zoie McDonald, Sydney Gonglik, Lauren Lustik and Makayla Gonglik singled for the Bearcats.
Union 9, Chartiers-Houston 7: Union scored five runs in the top of the seventh to rally past Charitiers-Houston 9-7.
Maggie Joseph hit a three-run homer to give the Scotties (16-2) the lead.
Kiera Drilak had a two-run single during a four-run fourth inning that gave the Bucs (16-2) a 6-3 lead.
Baseball
Bentworth 18, Sto-Rox 0: Bentworth (7-10) struck for 13 runs in the first inning on its way to an 18-0 victory over Sto-Rox.
Clint Havanis struck out nine over three innings and had an RBI single in the 13-run first inning. Cameron Krejci and Ty Watson had a pair of RBI singles in the frame.
Carmichaels 9, Beth-Center 0: Connor Lapana, Ryder Krieg and Dominic Yazzani combined to pitch a shutout in a 9-0 win for Carmichaels (9-9) over Beth-Center (1-17). The Mikes took control with a five-run third inning that featured a two-run triple by Krieg, a two-run double by Yazzani and an RBI single by Chase Ankrom.
Charleroi 11, Serra Catholic 9: Charleroi used an 8-run fifth inning to rally past Serra Catholic, 11-9.
The Cougars (11-8) trailed the Eagles 9-3 entering the bottom of the fifth. Jake Corrin had a two-run double in the frame. Jackson Keranko had three RBI for the Cougars. Max Black homered for Serra Catholic (12-7).
McGuffey 10, Burgettstown 0: Logan Griffis pitched five shutout innings with two strikeouts and Sam Stout went 3-for-3 and drove in three runs to propel McGuffey to a 10-0 win in five innings over Burgettstown (8-11).
Stout had a two-run triple in the first inning. Levi Young also had three hits for the Highlanders (7-12).
Colton County doubled for Burgettstown.
Trinity 7, Baldwin 5: Trinity rallied from a four-run deficit to earn a 7-5 win over Baldwin (11-8).
A two-run double by Asher Donley and an RBI groundout by Landon Conn gave Trinity a 5-4 lead in the third inning. Jonah Williamson doubled for the Hillers, who concluded the season 10-10.
Bethel Park 7, Canon-McMillan 2: A couple errors proved costly for Canon-McMillan (15-5) in a 7-2 loss to Bethel Park (11-8).
The Black Hawks plated five runs in the first inning, but only one was earned thanks to two Canon-McMillan errors.
Troy Stimpson had three hits, including a solo home run for the Big Macs.
Thomas Jefferson 3, Belle Vernon 2: Josh Chalovich had two hits, including an RBI single in a 3-2 win for Thomas Jefferson (16-4) over Belle Vernon (14-5). Freddy Cirlos had an RBI groundout in the second that gave Belle Vernon a 2-1 lead. Chalovich’s single in the third tied it and Justin Fry plated the go-ahead run for the Jaguars with a sacrifice fly.
