In a strange, but interesting regular season finale, Avella played Aquinas Academy, the same team it’ll face next week in the first round of the WPIAL Class A baseball playoffs.

The Eagles hope they’ll get the same result as they did Friday when the two teams meet again.

Noah Kimberland had an RBI single, one of two hits for Avella on the day, and the Eagles (12-7) edged Aquinas Academy (10-6) in a 2-1 pitcher’s duel.

Bryce Wright, Chas Rush and Cam Ullom combined to pitch a five-hitter for the Eagles. They had nine strikeouts and only one walk between them.

Avella and Aquinas Academy play in the Class A first round, 4 p.m. Monday at Burkett Park.

West Greene 2, Geibel Catholic 0: Darren Knight pitched a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts as West Greene (3-16) concluded its season with a 2-0 victory over Geibel Catholic.

South Fayette 7, Allderdice 6: Bo Stover hit a sacrifice fly that scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth in a 7-6 win for South Fayette (11-9) over Allderdice Thursday night.
