Wild Things’ Garcia named Pitcher of the Week
For the third straight week a Washington Wild Things player has received a Frontier League accolade.
Hector Garcia was named Pitcher of the Week, which was announced on Monday.
Garcia, who worked out of the bullpen for the Wild Things last year, made his first start and pitched six shutout innings against Joliet on Saturday. He allowed only one hit and had a career-high six strikeouts. Garcia improved to 2-0 and brought his ERA down to 0.69
Last week, Andrew Herbert received the Pitcher of the Week honor after allowing one-hit in seven innings against Schaumburg over seven innings. Herbert had his contract purchased by the Baltimore Orioles organization on Tuesday. Wild Things outfielder Jeff Liquori was named Player of the Week after the first weekend of the season.
On Monday the Wild Things announced a pair of roster moves. Infielder DJ Banks was released and left-handed pitcher Colt Anderson was placed on the 7-day injured list.
The Wild Things begin a three-game set at Schaumburg on Tuesday.
