California Men win, Women fall in Kutztown

Cam Polak and Jordyn Buchanan combined for 50 points Saturday afternoon, as the Vulcans rolled to an 87-73 victory at Kutztown in PSAC crossover play.

Polak, a redshirt junior, tied his career high with 27 points, hit four 3-pointers, and recorded his first career double-double by grabbing 10 rebounds.

Buchanan, a freshman, scored a season-high 23 points and had seven assists.

California (7-7) led by as many as 14 points in the first half before Kutztown (3-8) closed the half on an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to 41-40 at the break.

The Vulcans mounted a 20-2 rally over six minutes in the second half to claim a 64-44 advantage with 11:42 left to play. They set season highs with 14 three-pointers made and 25 assists in the victory.

Duncan Moy scored 11 points and Keondre DeShields finished with 10 points.

Kutztown 54, California 45

The California women led by 18 points at one point, but Kutztown used an 18-5 advantage in the third quarter to get back in the game and finished off a late rally to secure a 54-45 victory in PSAC crossover play.

The Vulcans (6-3) held a 49-47 lead with 51 seconds remaining before the Golden Bears scored the final seven points of the game, including five-of-six from the free-throw line

Naia Pulliam paced the Golden Bears (5-8) with 26 points and Abbey Hearn came off the bench to score 10.

Sierra Bermudez led the Vulcans with a season-high 17 points. Hope Hawkins contributed a dozen points off the bench.

The Vulcans struggled from the free throw line, hitting only nine of 20 attempts, while Kutztown went 12 for 15.
