College basketball roundup: Keesee, Waynesburg hold off Hiram

Waynesburg fought off two charges by visiting Hiram – one at the end of the first half and one in the final minutes of the game – and held on for a 78-76 victory in a nonconference men’s basketball game Monday afternoon at Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Waynesburg (6-5) had a double-digit lead in the first half before Hiram (7-5) used a 12-2 run to trim the Yellow Jackets’ advantage to 44-43 at halftime.
Waynesburg pulled away again in the second half and led 69-60 with four minutes remaining. Hiram again made a charge and closed to within two points before Waynesburg’s Casey Keesee made two clutch free throws with 11 seconds to play that sealed the win.
Keesee scored a team-high 20 points. P.J. Suggs scored 10 of his 17 points in the first half and Antone Baker had 13 points for the Yellow Jackets.
Hiram’s Trent Jakacki scored a game-high 23 points.
Women’s results
Washington & Jefferson 70, Penn State Behrend 62
Stellanie Loutsion scored a career-high 28 points, making 12 of 13 free throws, and sparked Washington & Jefferson to a 70-62 home-court victory over Penn State Behrend in a nonconference game.
Loutsion led four players in double figures for the Presidents (10-2), who outscored Behrend (6-5) in every quarter.
Adalynn Cherry scored 14 points, Katie Kovalchick and Bryan Bezjak each tossed in 12.
The Presidents led 21-19 after one quarter and 35-32 at halftime before giving themselves some breathing room with a 15-11 edge in the third quarter. W&J secured the win by making nine of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Rachel Majewski paced Behrend with 22 points. The Lions hurt their chances by making only five of 14 free throws.
Waynesburg 75, Hiram 60
Julz Mohrbacher scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Waynesburg led almost the entire way in defeating Hiram, 75-60.
Mia Henkins and Tori Wesolowski each scored 12 points for Waynesburg, which improved to 6-5. The Yellow Jackets led 30-28 at halftime and moved out to a 50-43 edge after three quarters. They secured the win by converting 11 of 15 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Isabella Caceres’ 16 points were tops for Hiram (7-5).
