Small college basketball: W&J women notch 20th victory
Stellanie Loutsion led five Washington & Jefferson players in double figures with 23 points and the Presidents cruised to a 91-71 victory over visiting Geneva in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Wednesday.
W&J (16-1, 20-2), which is in first place in the PAC, had a fast start, building an 18-3 lead and was never threatened. Loutsion scored 10 of the Presidents’ first 20 points.
Meghan Dryburgh and Sarah Berardelli each had a double-double for W&J. Dryburgh had 12 points and 10 rebounds while Berardelli had 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Katie Kovalchick scored 11 points and Bryn Bezjak added 10.
The Presidents have won 11 in a row.
Taylor Milroy led Geneva (10-8, 11-12) with 20 points.
California 78, Seton Hill 69
Senior forward Dejah Terrell poured in a game-high 36 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and led California to a 78-69 victory over host Seton Hill in a PSAC West game.
Terrell made 14 of 23 shots from the field and eight of nine free throws, helping Cal (10-6, 15-7) stop a three-game losing streak. Seton Hill (9-7, 12-10) was trying to move past Cal in the division standings.
The Vulcans led 39-33 at halftime and couldn’t shake the Griffins until midway through the fourth quarter when Cal built its largest lead at 75-58.
Allycia Harris also had a double-double for Cal, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Christiane Frye led Seton Hill with 22 points.
Grove City 80, Waynesburg 42
Jaden Davinsizer and Kat Goetz each scored 22 points as Grove City rolled to an 80-42 victory over host Waynesburg in a PAC game.
Waynesburg (3-14, 3-18) shot only 24 percent and had 24 turnovers. The Yellow Jackets’ Kalista Friday and Madisen Dayton each scored eight points.
Men’s results
Waynesburg 61, Grove City 43
Antone Baker scored 22 points, Jaylen Davis grabbed 15 rebounds and Waynesburg never trailed in a 61-43 victory over visiting Grove City in a PAC game.
Baker made 9 of 19 shots and grabbed 13 rebounds to help Waynesburg improve to 9-8 in the PAC and 12-10 overall. The Yellow Jackets led 31-14 at halftime as Grove City (7-10, 11-11) shot only 23 percent in the first half and 29 percent for the game. Waynesburg led by as many as 25 points early in the second half.
